Measure notes
You name one historical unit of length or measure, such as a village rod, a hand or an Irish perch. Sorrel returns a note on its value and where that value comes from.
What a note contains
- The value in metres, with the arithmetic shown.
- The text it comes from: a statute or other primary source where Sorrel can open one, otherwise a named reference work.
- The date and place where the unit applied, as far as the sources say.
- What could not be established.
How sources are labelled
Each figure is marked primary when it was read in an official text, and secondary when it comes from a reference work. Figures from secondary sources are labelled as such.
